We’ve got a busy week – Yogurtland fundraiser on Tuesday anytime 4-10PM, important Parent Meeting on Wednesday at 6:30PM, the Concert Band & Wind Ensemble performing at the SCSBOA Festival at Santiago HS on Thursday, the FUNDrive drop-off on Saturday anytime 9AM-2PM, Winter Guard double-header on Saturday at Downey HS and Sunday at Ayala HS, and Indoor Percussion rehearsal & loading Saturday 9AM-6PM and SCPA Championship Prelims on Sunday at Los Osos HS. Finally, on Monday, both Jazz I and II will be performing at the ABC Jazz Showcase at Artesia HS, as well as the ABC All-Star Jazz Band comprised of students from all four high schools!

PARENT MEETING – THIS WEDNESDAY 3/25 AT 6:30PM!

PARENTS: Please join us for an important meeting this Wednesday, March 25th at 6:30PM in the Band Room. In addition to our general booster meeting with information for all of our upcoming fundraisers and performances, we’re kicking off our annual Mattress Fundraiser. If we have over 100 parents in attendance, the music program will receive $1,000! Let’s make it happen!!

SCSBOA FESTIVAL THIS THURSDAY AT SANTIAGO HS

This week, we will be performing at SCSBOA Festival on Thursday, March 26th at Santiago High School! This is our last performance of the festival season, where we will play for a panel of adjudicators for a rating and be evaluated on sight-reading. Festival is free and open to the public.

FINAL MANDATORY REHEARSAL BEFORE FESTIVAL:

Review all concert pieces, sight-reading, final run-through of Concert Band & Wind ensemble pieces.

Attendance is crucial – students must be in attendance or they may not perform at festival.

FUNDRIVE DROP-OFF THIS SATURDAY 9AM-2PM!

Clean out your closets and support the Gahr Marching Gladiators this Saturday, March 28th! Our FUNDrive Drop-Off is from 9:00AM-2:00PM at Gahr High School. We will be collecting gently used, clean items in sellable condition, including clothes, shoes, handbags, backpacks, bedding, blankets, sheets, towels, linens, and other household textiles. All items must be placed in 13-gallon kitchen bags.

Each student will receive one raffle ticket for every three (3) filled bags they donate, with a chance to win a $40 Amazon gift card! We’ll also have additional prizes to the students who donate the most bags.

PARENTS: We need your help the day of to collect items at the FUNDrive. Please click here to sign up to volunteer.

Indoor Percussion will be performing at SCPA Championship Prelims this Sunday, March 29th. This is our last Saturday rehearsal from 9AM-6PM (which will include loading). LUNCHTIME LEADERSHIP CLASS CONTINUES THIS FRIDAY!

Our Lunchtime Leadership Classes have had a great turnout with thoughtful discussions and strong leadership engagement. We look forward to seeing you at our next Lunchtime Leadership Class this Friday, March 27th! You are welcome to bring your lunch to eat in the Band Room during the class.

These classes are open to everyone, whether or not you are planning to apply for leadership. It’s a great opportunity to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn how to positively impact the ensemble. However, students who plan to apply for a band or color guard leadership position are required to attend these sessions.

Don’t miss this opportunity to grow and take the next step as a leader in our program. See you there!

FINAL WINTER GUARD DONATION DUE THIS FRIDAY 3/27

DRUMLINE & GUARD “SPRING SHOWCASE” – NEXT WEDNESDAY 4/1

The 2026 ABCUSD Drumline & Guard SPRING SHOWCASE is next Wednesday, April 1st in the Gahr HS Gym! If you've never seen drums or flags in a gym, you will definitely want to check this out. Best of all, admission is TOTALLY FREE! We will have nachos, churros, candy, chips, cup o’ noodles, Thai tea with boba, and soda/water available for purchase.

Doors open at 6:00PM and the first performance is at 6:30PM. This event is all about celebrating and supporting one another, so we ask that you arrive early and stay to watch the entire performance (including student performers).

Performances are back-to-back in the order listed. There are no set times for each group. This will keep the event moving with less “dead time” between performances, as well as encourage everyone to stay to watch and support each other!

PROGRAM AD FUNDRAISER – CANCELED

We are canceling the Program Ad Fundraiser for the ABCUSD Drumline & Guard Spring Showcase.

At this time, there have not been any ad or shoutout sales, and the cost to produce the printed color programs would exceed the funds raised. Because of this, we will not be moving forward with the program booklet. We will continue to offer other fundraising opportunities that more effectively support both our students and the program.

Even though we won’t be making a program booklet, we still look forward to seeing everyone perform at the ABCUSD Drumline & Guard Spring Showcase on Wednesday, April 1st at 6:30PM in the Gahr HS Gym!

The ABCUSD Jazz Showcase is next Monday, March 30th at the Artesia HS Gym starting at 5:30PM! Hear all of the middle school and high school jazz bands in the ABC Unified School District. Gahr HS student call time is 6:00PM.

This showcase is FREE and open to the public. Gahr HS Jazz I performs at 7:15PM, Jazz II performs at 8:00PM, and the ABC All-Star Jazz Band will be performing at 8:15PM! Bring money for concessions.

ANNUAL GIFT BASKET RAFFLE!

We are collecting donations for our Annual Gift Basket Raffle, one of our favorite spring traditions! This year we will be raffling off four incredible themed baskets during the Gahr Area Concert on Wednesday, May 6th, including a special “Disney Day” basket featuring a Family 4-Pack of Disneyland tickets! Each section of the band & color guard will help build the baskets by donating themed items. Families may also contribute cash or gift cards, which will allow the boosters to purchase larger items (such as the Disneyland tickets). This fundraiser directly supports the Gahr Instrumental Music Program, and we greatly appreciate the generosity of our students and families!

2027 ORLANDO TRIP!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Orlando Trip Parent Meeting! We had an incredible turnout and are very excited to offer this opportunity to our students. If you were unable to attend the parent meeting, please review the full information packet here.

The Orlando Trip is open to all current 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade Band and Color Guard students and will take place during Spring Break from March 25-30, 2027.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience includes:

  • Round-trip airfare and hotel accommodations

  • Transportation throughout the trip

  • 3 days at Walt Disney World

  • 2 days at Universal Orlando (including Epic Universe)

  • Performance in the Walt Disney World Parade
