Congratulations on a great Holiday Band Concert! The students of the Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band had wonderful performances! Thank you to all the parents, families, friends, and teachers that came out to watch the concert, including Principal Dr. Zietlow and Assistant Principal Mr. Cruz, as well as School Board President Sophia Tse and Board Member Olympia Chen! If you weren't able to make it, here's a clip of the finale!
Thank you to our fantastic booster parents for hosting a fun and successful Holiday Band Party! Thank you so much to the booster board and everyone who chipped in for the American Express Gift Card! Laura and I were shocked by your generosity. I am so humbled to be working for such an incredible group of students and parents at Gahr High School!
It’s been an unbelievable marching season for the Gahr Marching Gladiators! Our students and parents were introduced to the exciting world of field show competitions and performed in the SCJA and SCSBOA circuits. Our 2013 production, “Outbreak,” went undefeated in the SCJA 3A division, consistently earning top awards at every tournament!
Highlights from the Fall 2013 season included our August Band Camp and Showcase Concert; a football game before school started; “Can’t Hold Us,” “Summertime Sadness,” and “Safe and Sound”rocking the home stands; the student, parent, and crowd reaction to our first place win at our first field tournament in six years; performing with Ross, Haskell, and Tetzlaff at Middle School Band Night; learning our field show opener drill with music in one week; that one time when our 8th graders were late from a parade and our equipment truck broke down on the freeway; qualifying and taking sweepstakes at California State Band Championships; being featured in the O.C. Register; and putting together and performing two wonderful Christmas parades. I am so proud of what the students have accomplished through their hard work and dedication. I am privileged and honored to be a part of such an incredible organization.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing team of parents that made this field season possible. Your hard work and dedication to the students and our program is invaluable. Thank you to everyone who has selflessly volunteered their time to make our kids look and sound so good. Thank you once again for all the truck loading, truck unloading, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, driving, transporting, fixing, repairing, building, chaperoning, pluming, sewing, disease-squaring, dry-icing, fundraising, lunches, breakfasts, brunches, organizing, planning, meeting, videoing, supporting, and cheering! Thank you to the Gahr High School administration and faculty who recognize the importance of the arts in a student’s academic schedule support the program on so many levels.
I offer my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May your homes be filled with music, laughter, and love.
